How dates are set
School calendars in Netherlands
The Netherlands is split into three regions, North, Central and South. Christmas and the May break are the same everywhere, while the autumn, spring and summer breaks are staggered. The ministry's autumn and spring dates are advice, so a school can choose other weeks.
School holidays in Netherlands are set by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
South covers: Limburg, Zeeland, Noord-Brabant (except parts of Altena); southern Gelderland (e.g. Arnhem, Nijmegen, Wijchen, Zevenaar, Zaltbommel; parts of Neder-Betuwe and Montferland) – see rijksoverheid.nl for the full list.
Single schools can add a few days of their own (for example for teacher training or local feasts). Check with your school for those.
