How dates are set
School calendars in Germany
Each of Germany's 16 Länder sets its own school holidays. The Länder agree a long-term rota for the summer break, so summer starts are staggered between late June and early August, and some Länder have no autumn, winter or Whitsun break at all.
School holidays in Germany are set by the education ministries of the 16 Länder, coordinated by the Standing Conference (KMK).
Single schools can add a few days of their own (for example for teacher training or local feasts). Check with your school for those.
