How dates are set
School calendars in Portugal
Portugal's school calendar is set by ministerial order (despacho), currently fixed up to 2027/28 for the mainland. Madeira sets its own regional calendar. Summer starts on different days depending on the school year a pupil is in.
School holidays in Portugal are set by the Ministry of Education.
Azores covers: Public schools of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (own regional Portaria). All Azores breaks are listed in full under PT-20 because Christmas and the summer dates differ from the mainland.
Single schools can add a few days of their own (for example for teacher training or local feasts). Check with your school for those.
