How dates are set

Who decides

School holidays in Italy are set by the 21 regional governments and autonomous provinces.

Each Italian region sets its own school calendar within national rules: the first and last day of lessons, extra days around holidays and some local breaks differ from region to region.

Single schools can add a few days of their own (for example for teacher training or local feasts). Check with your school for those.
